Week 5: Presenting domains

This week, each group presented their chosen project domain. The presentations included need validation, which featured an overview of sleep issues based on the research we conducted over the past weeks, including interviews with sleep experts and end users. We also created a persona developed from the insights gained during these interviews, shared key quotes from user interviews, examined existing solutions, and posed the "How might we" question: How might we help Michal relieve stress before bed in order to sleep better?

For next week class: Positioning Table

For next week class, we created a positioning table based on current competitors identified during our research, following the instructors' recommendations. We plan to position our idea in the top right corner. Additionally, we will conduct a more in-depth literature review on the topic of sleep issues.

This positioning table categorizes various sleep aids based on two dimensions: the type of solution (Digital Product vs. Physical Product) and the type of aid they provide (Behavioral/Cognitive Aid vs. Sensory/Physical Aid).

Description of the Quadrants:

  1. Top-Left Quadrant (Digital Product - Behavioral/Cognitive Aid):

    • This section includes products that leverage digital technology to enhance cognitive or behavioral aspects of sleep. Examples include:

      • Whoop Sleep Tracker Band: A wearable device that tracks sleep patterns and offers insights for better sleep management.

      • Headspace: A meditation app designed to improve sleep through guided sessions and mindfulness practices.

      • Oura Ring 4: A smart ring that tracks various health metrics, including sleep stages and recovery data.

  2. Top-Right Quadrant (Physical Product - Behavioral/Cognitive Aid):

    • This area contains physical products that help improve sleep through cognitive or behavioral approaches. Examples include:

      • Dodow: A device that helps users fall asleep by using a rhythmic light pattern to guide breathing and relaxation.

      • Muse Headband: A headband that monitors brain activity and offers real-time feedback to help users improve their sleep.

  3. Bottom-Left Quadrant (Digital Product - Sensory/Physical Aid):

    • This quadrant focuses on digital solutions that create sensory or physical stimulation to support sleep. Examples include:

      • Hatch Restore: A device that provides customizable sleep routines, including light and sound features that help users fall asleep or wake up naturally.

      • Eight Sleep Pod App: An app that integrates with smart bedding to optimize sleep temperature and enhance comfort.

  4. Bottom-Right Quadrant (Physical Product - Sensory/Physical Aid):

    • This section includes tangible products that provide sensory or physical support for sleep without involving digital technology. Examples are:

      • Aura Sleep Mask: A sleep mask designed to block out light, creating a more restful environment.

      • Lavender Pillow Spray: A fragrance spray used on pillows that can promote relaxation and improve sleep quality.

      • White Noise Machines: Devices that produce calming white noise to mask disruptive sounds.

      • Gravity Blanket: A weighted blanket that provides deep pressure stimulation to help reduce anxiety and promote sleep.

Next class: solution thinking! Next week, we'll dive into solution thinking and explore innovative ways to tackle challenges—stay tuned for an inspiring and thought-provoking session!
